My son and I love to visit the restaurants featured on Guy Fieri's show called Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Usually the places are far away from our home, but I happen to find this gem in Santa Barbara, about an hour from my home. Besides the amazing fresh and delicious food, I was attracted to the story of the owners. The café features a special dish that allows you to taste a little bit of everything that was featured on the show--it is called the Guy Fieri plate and includes the turkey fritter, pesto green beans, quinoa mango salad, and a piece of carrot cake. It's amazing! There are a ton of gluten free options in the bakery and on the menu as well. I only wish the café was even closer to my home. I am really happy that things are going well for this family, and hope that more people stop to visit the Savoy Café and Deli. There are a lot of pluses to ordering on an ipad:
Tip: Use their call-ahead service and put your name in 30 minutes before you arrive so that your table is ready when you get there! (805) 494-2530 Address: 446 W Hillcrest Dr, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360 http://www.mamadsnewport.com/ This is what I have dreamed of for a restaurant. Attention to detail, detail, detail!!! From the moment I arrived, I could tell that Mama D's employees had been trained well. If guests were asked to wait, the hosts all thanked them profusely for waiting. Lemonade, cold water, and fresh bread were all offered to guests as they awaited their table. The wait staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The meal was OUTSTANDING. The pink sauce for my pasta was amazing, the specials were tasty, and the portions were generous. Complimentary chocolate chip cookies were even given at the end of the meal. The whole experience was stellar! I HAD TO find the manager before we left to let him know that I would be bragging about his restaurant, that I noticed all the details, and that I appreciated the effort he put in to creating this unforgettable dining experience for us. He thanked me and then asked me to wait so that he could run to the back to get a business card for me to treat me to a complimentary appetizer during my next visit. All I have to say, is that I'll see you soon, Mama D's! One of my favorite stops is Stonehaus. It's a great casual place to sip wine, have a coffee date, sit outside, sit by a fire, and relax with friends. You order up at the counter and then find a spot to sit inside or outside on their beautiful patio. They even provide blankets for those who want to sit outside. It's charming, quaint, and cozy! 32039 Agoura Rd, Westlake Village, CA 91361 So...I know that I have blogged about Maggiano's before but I must underscore my suggestion to dine here after some recent experiences. We celebrated a few birthdays here recently, and the service and pricetag for the amazing meal never cease to amaze me. Ordering "family style" is the only way that I know to do it here. Family Style Menu: http://tinyurl.com/4akrblv There is enough variety to please everyone, and you can even PRE-ORDER it all so that the food just keeps coming out after you sit down. The other piece that I cannot rave enough about is the fact that they clear your plates from the table, and keep the table well tended to throughout your dining experience. This is why we pay for service, people! Finally a restaurant who has got it right. For the amount of money you are spending, the amount of food you are getting, and the amount of attention you are paid, Maggiano's is a STELLAR STOP.
Our favorites: Bruschetta (so fresh!), Calamari (melts in your mouth), Rigatoni "D" (no brainer), Chopped Salad (much better than the boring Caesar), Cheesecake and Chocolate Zuccotto. Now GO...RUN THERE if you have not done so already!!! http://www.padrirestaurant.net/
Everything at Padri - from the service to the food to the atmosphere is spectacular. The overall experience was so satisying that I am already trying to figure out how to get back there. They have a large martini list, excellent wine offerings, delicious dishes that range from risotto to seafood pastas, and perfect desserts to cap off the evening. http://www.yardhouse.com/CA/northridge-restaurant/
The Yard House is a chain, and I have eaten at the one in San Diego before. This restaurant which is part of the Northridge Fashion Center is a newer location. It is a large restaurant, with flat screen tvs hung throughout, and a beautiful bar at its center. The menu is massive so it is really helpful to ask a server about what the favorites are. All the food that we had that evening was delicious - the egg rolls were tasty but you didn't get much for $10, the Seared Ahi Tuna Salad had a very tasty dressing, the Halibut was amazing, and the desserts were both spectacular! Our server added a lot of positive elements to our overall experience at the restaurant. He was friendly and took the time to make suggestions from the extensive menu. When he took a break, he introduced us to another server, and by the end of the evening, they both came back to check on me and my friend and to get our feedback on the suggestions they had made. The restaurant has a great vibe, a menu with a lot of variety, and 150 taps to choose from for beer lovers. If you've never been to a Yard House, it's worth a stop. http://www.maggianos.com
Maggiano's is a chain restaurant, so there are many locations. I usually go to the one in Woodland Hills, CA, which is attached to the Promenade Mall. There is NOTHING bad to eat at Maggiano's. Our favorite dishes are the Chopped Salad, the Rigatoni D pasta dish, Chicken Parmesan, and for dessert, you MUST have the strawberry cheesecake and the chocolate zuccoto cake. It's difficult to describe just how luscious and creamy the cheesecake is...it's not like any other cheesecake I have ever tasted. Amazing. The chocolate zuccoto cake just leaves you speechless. One of the best deals and options is the family style menu. It's about $27 per person and it is like a buffet of non-stop goodness that comes to you. You order two salads, two appetizers, two pastas, two entrees, and two desserts, and they just keep coming until you tell them to stop. It's heaven. I have also had a special party in one of the banquet rooms and the service and food were exceptional. If you haven't tried Maggiano's, you MUST stop to eat there some time. http://www.ruthschris.com/
I've wanted to go to a Ruth's Chris Steak House for some time. It is a chain, and there are many located close to me in California. However, while we were in Boston, we happened to be staying at the Omni Parker House hotel and the Ruth's Chris Steak House is located right across the street in the Old City Hall building. The historic building is beautiful, the service is superb, and my family is still talking about how perfectly their steaks were cooked! I was particularly impressed with the large salad that preceded our meals; it came with the fixed menu from which we all ordered that included a salad or soup, entree, and dessert (all for about $40). We were celebrating a special anniversary, and their Happy Anniversary plate was a nice touch. I would definitely be interested in checking one out on the west coast too! Summer Shack Restaurant 50 Dalton Street Boston, MA 02115 (617) 867-9955 http://www.summershackrestaurant.com/ This is how you do lobstah! All the food--lobster, fried shrimp, lobster roll, clam chowdah--it was all so fresh! Prompt service, and what I loved the most that I don't regularly see at restaurants is that the servers cleared our table after we ate so that we were not eating our desserts and enjoying our coffee while having seafood scraps and plates laying around. It was just the east coast lobster experience we were looking for...casual, clean, and delicious! |
